Organic foods are, of course, healthier for you than just ordinary foods. Living a healthy lifestyle has many benefits, including feeling more energized and living longer. Some of the popular organic foods found in Tassie are: Leatherwood honey, Atlantic salmon, olive oil, tomatoes, and olive oil, etc. Here are five of the healthiest food markets in Tasmania: Farm Gate, Sorell Fruit Farm, Bream Creek, Lilydale, and Salamanca.
Farm Gate Market
It’s Hobart’s weekend hotspot where you’ll find an assortment of artisan products, such as different cheeses, bagels, breads, jams, Tassie wines, patisseries, and boutique beer. If you are a plant lover, then you’re in for a treat. The market has native plants, fruit trees, and unusual herbs, organically grown for you to browse. You’ll also find rare free range Berkshire pork, game meats, and seafood.
Sorell Fruit Farm
Located in Sorell, pick your own fruit right off the vine and place it in your plastic punnet you’re given at the farm. It doesn’t get any healthier or fresher than this! You’ll have plenty of different berries (strawberries, cherries, and blueberries), apricots, and nectarines to pick. You can also purchase snacks, locally made preserves and jams.
Bream Creek Farmer’s Market
Located in Bream Creek Showgrounds, just 40 minutes from Hobart, you’ll find fresh produce right from the farmer’s backyard. Listen to some live music, socialize, and shop for organically grown Duggan apples, potatoes, herbs, cherries, walnuts, garlic, goat meat, fresh oysters, and smoked seafood. These are just a few of the delicious foods you’ll find here.
Lilydale Village Market
Opened on the second Sunday of each month in Lilydale, farmers bring their organically grown produce to sell to the community. There’s also live music, home-made crafts, gifts, antiques, and food stalls just waiting for you to come out and see them. You’ll especially appreciate the local beer, wine, and yummy food. It’s a great place for families and there’s a little something here for everyone.
Located in Hobart on the waterfront, this outdoor market has everything. Opened on Saturdays, there are lots of stalls with fresh produce, clothing, plants, wood products, exquisite soaps, jewellery and food.
Most everything sold here is local organically grown or hand-made. It’s definitely worth a visit! If you love to shop organic markets, then you’ll love visiting Tassie for a foodie trip. It’s just a short ferry ride over from Melbourne on the Spirit of Tasmania where you’ll embark at Davenport. You can bring your car, so you’ll be able to visit all sorts of markets, especially in the Hobart area. Come and be prepared to taste deliciously home-grown foods!
